#NaNoWriMo Day 3 – ACK!!!! I’m behind!
We have once more entered into the month of November. And I’m behind in my work count.
When I started NaNoWriMo, I was younger and seemed to have all the time in the world (dammit!).
At this point in my life, I am posing as a responsible adult (not sure how people are letting me get away with this) with a full-time job, family commitments, a major holiday, volunteering with my local writing organization (I ❤ James River Writers), and life.
I thought I’d be working on one project, and my blank-ity-blank muse went and hit me over the head with another interesting shiny idea. The words are flowing and I’m working through it, but I feel like I can’t make the numbers.
Then I remember, I’m not alone. Everyone who takes up the challenge of writing 50,000 words during this month is experiencing the same thing.
In the Pep Talk from author Sara Gruen, she says:
I can do this. WE can do this. However far behind you are, take comfort in knowing that there is somebody else out there in the same boat, and look for that next fun scene. And then the next. And if that doesn’t work, set someone on fire. In your book, of course.
We who write are not without resources. The NaNoWriMo site is chocked full of how to make it to the finish line and what to do afterwords.
While I’m have a bit of a panic attack. I’m surrounded by the best kind of crazy, other writers.
Write one word, add another, and another, until you reach the goal. Don’t edit, follow the plot bunnies, and let the creativity flow!
