Happy Holidays for 2013

I won’t let the stupid plague keep me from spreading my holiday cheer. The week before the holidays and I’m singing ‘Shingles Hell, shingles hell, shingles all the way!’ On top of that I’m on a dose of super-duper-bug exterminating antibiotic after visiting the doctor, again, yesterday. You know it’s a bad sign when the doctor walks into the room and say, “Wow!” End result? I’m home. Grrrr.

Don’t let the end of my year fool you, over all this has been a good year. Filled with good and not so good.

Let’s start with the good, Hot Flashes is loose in the world! Woohoo! This has been an exercise in discipline and heart. I’ve learned so many lessons.

  1. Tell the story first, then edit the hell out of it.
  2. Editing is really a writer’s friend.
  3. Share with trusted readers to make sure you are telling the right story.
  4. Research the market and the publishing avenues.

Closed out my participation with James River Writers out with a bang. The annual conference went off beautifully.  Can’t wait for next year. I’m looking forward to 2014’s Twitter Chats.  And, I’ll be a board member for 2014.  I’m really excited about this.

I’ve mapped out my writing goals for 2014. The goals are aggressive, but I’d rather shoot for the stars than stay stuck in the muck.

The sad note is I lost my writing buddy and character inspiration – Quizz. There is something about an awesome pit bull. He always listened to me, got me up for regular breaks when I was stuck at my desk too long, and he inspired me. He was a Good Dog.  I miss him.

Mischievous and loyal, the best qualities in a dog.

This will be my last post until the beginning of the year.

Before I go, I have to say thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me, read my ramblings on my blog, made me laugh, made me sentimental, kicked me in the pants, and kept me going.  Writing is NOT a solitary venture, filled with amazing people who give me strength to forge ahead.

Thank you and happy holidays.  May your new year be filled with wonder and blessings.

  • That is such a lovely shot of Quizz. He looks like he was a bit of a character, that’s for sure. Happy Holidays, Leila. And may 2014 bring you more happiness than tears, and more stories to tell.

    • He was a happy boy. Nothing better than nosing around the mulch. 🙂 Happy Holidays to you as well, can’t wait for Emergence to come out. Thanks for being wonderful!

  • Wishing you a year filled with inspired writing and adventures, Leila!

    • Thank you! I’m hoping 2014 will bring you joy and amazing adventures.
