Splendid Failures

All of us failed to match our dreams of perfection.  So, I rate us on the basis of our splendid failure to do the impossible. – William Faulkner

Blogging is one part persistence, one part subject matter, one part personality.  Today I mark the 2 year anniversary of this endeavor.

When I chose to start this blog, I wasn’t looking to change the world.  I was simply looking to document my journey to publication and beyond. My expectations have been exceeded. I have ‘met’ amazing writers and artists who are generous in their support.

My creative road has been littered with the carcasses of failed projects.  These failures have not been a waste. Like the fine art of recycling, I have cannibalized these bits and pieces for other projects.

I feel as though I’m working 20 jigsaw puzzles at the same time with the pieces in one big pile. Yet, piece by piece all the pictures are coming to fruition.

In the end, making an effort should not be viewed as failure.  Success is not allowing our perceived failures to stop us.

  • I believe the only failure is failing to try Leila. I read that somewhere and it resonates with me.

Congrats on sticking with it! Your are going great!

    • There are days I feel like the little train, chugging up the mountain. Others I’m soaring. Both experiences are completely worth it. Thank you my friend.

  • Happy 2nd Anniversary Leila and long may it continue!

    • Thanks Beth!

  • Congratulations! Looking forward to another year of chugs and swoops, Robin

  • Yes! This is exactly how it feels for me as well–20 jigsaw puzzles indeed. You’ve been doing a wonderful job. Congratulations on sticking with it! 🙂

    • Thank you my wonderful friend.

  • Happy 2nd Anniversary! 🙂

There are no such thing as failures, just successes in varying degrees.

    • Thank you! I like that, ‘successes of varying degrees’.

  • Happy Anniversary! Looking forward to many more great posts! : )

  • Happy happy anniversary! I started blogging in Feb 2010 too. Can’t believe it’s been two years. Looking forward to hearing about your journey. And there is no failure until you stop trying. Only then can an end result be tallied. 🙂

    • Thank you so much! Time flies when we’re having fun! 🙂 I’m just really grateful to the people who have found my blog and to the bloggers whom I’ve found.

  • Congratulations! This is a beautiful post and great outlook to have. In honor of your two year anniversary, I’m giving you The Candle Lighter Award.

There are no rules that go with this. Simply accept or decline – no pressure either way. If you accept, there is no obligation or rush to pass the award on. If you would like to do so, you may pass this on to anyone you wish, as many times as you like, whenever you want. To grab the image, go here.
