Flinging Hopes and Dreams

The querying process is a character builder.  It make me feel like I’m flinging my hopes and dreams into a field and praying that something will germinate.

No matter the research for agent selection, the one constant remains.  Agents are subjective and busy.  This is NOT a criticism on agents, just an observation.

One of my favorite quotes from my many rejections is:

This industry is incredibly subjective, and there are many agencies out there with many different tastes.  It is for this reason that we strongly encourage you to keep submitting elsewhere, in the hopes of finding an agent who will be an enthusiastic champion for you and your work.

I view an agents selection process similar to the process I engage to select a book to read.   I’m looking for that something that grabs me and demands that I read it. Agents are demanding they be engaged by my work.  I get that, it just forces me to reevaluate my project and make it better.
