Self Editing

Russel T Davies said, when he was editing the last series of Doctor Who with David Tennant, ‘You can write the most brilliant scene imaginable, but if it doesn’t advance the story don’t use it.”

While I’m working on my current project.  I tend to put it all out there.  Let it sit for a bit then go back and see what slows the pace down.

That’s brutal. I’ve been ruthless and cut out pieces that I thought were great. Just not working for this story.  But I’m a story writer pack rat.  I have a file of unused scenes.  You never know when I might be able to use something for another piece.

Does that make me a word hoarder?
